Painted Adirondack Chairs If you want to extend the life of your Adirondack furniture you will need to paint or seal it before it is exposed to the outdoors. This is something we offer if you do not want to do it yourself. The high quality Porter Paint, Benjamin Moore, Sikkens and Cabot finishing products we use are as good as any you will find. Remember that what we do is not a one time process because no paint finish made will last forever, therefore you will need to refinish your Adirondack furniture again when it needs it. If you want us to get you started out on the right track then purchase our Adirondack chairs and tables stained or painted. What we offer # We use high quality Porter Paint®, Benjamin Moore®, Sikkens Cetol®, and Cabot® paint products. # Yellow Poplar wood is the only wood we offer painted with an acrylic latex paint. Why? because it is known as being one of the better woods to paint. The overall results are higher for Poplar because it holds paint well and has an excellent smooth surface. We include a small container of touch-up acrylic paint along with the product name and code. Type of Paint Finishes We Use Acrylic Exterior Paint: We use Porter Paint's super premium semi-gloss Acri-Shield® exterior acrylic paint and Benjamin Moore IronClad® acrylic paint. Both are high quality paints that are advertised as non-yellowing, fade and chalk resistant, mold and mildew resistant as well as peeling and blistering resistant paints. Why do we use acrylic paint? Because the elasticity of the paint allows it to contract and expand well with with weather changes. Enamel cures so hard that it does not give as much as acrylic and overtime can develop surface cracks. The only draw back to acrylic paint is the extra time it takes the paint to cure or harden. But the extra days needed before we can ship it will be worth the added durabilty that comes with the paint. Natural Protective Stain: We use PorterDeck Transparent Wood Stain and Sikkens Cetol® SRD wood stains. Both are deep penetrating alkyd-oil/urethane exterior wood stains. They provide excellent weather resistance, penetrate and strengthen the wood surface, exceeds Federal Spec. TT-W-527B for water repellency, have oxide pigments that protect wood from damaging UV rays and contain agents that provide outstanding resistance against mildew and algae growth. We use and recommend alkyd-oil wood stains over ordinary wood oils such as linseed oil or water based wood stains because they are harder and penetrate deep into the wood. We use Cabot® exterior Harbormaster polyurethane as a cover coat for our stain. Important, we have found that outdoor wood stain finishes will last about 12 to 18 months.(How long will depend on the weather and exposure.) Therefore, you will need to apply a maintenance coat of stain when your outdoor furniture visually requires it in order to maintain the protective characteristics of the finish. How We Do Our Finishing # We spray as well as bush our Adirondack furniture for maximum coverage. # The acrylic paint finish consists of the following: one coat of acrylic bonding primer/sealer and two to three coats of premium acrylic paint. # The natural protective stain is a one coat finish that is generously applied and allowed to fully soak into the wood before the excess is wiped off.
